Recruitment and Selection Process in HRM
Introduction to Recruitment and
Selection Process in HRM
Employees are one of the most vital resources that in the any kind of an organization. Hence, it is important for organizations to have a systematic recruitment and selection process to hire new employees. Recruitment and selection process is concerned with identifying, attracting and choosing suitable person to meet organizations human resource requirements in long term (Anderson, 2001).
Recruitment and selection are conceived as the processes by which organizations solicit, contract and interest potential appointees, and then establish whether it would be appropriate to appoint any of them (Armstrong, 2006). Recruitment plays a vital part in both new and established businesses alike and affects the overall performance of a company (Tomcikova, 2016).
Further, recruitment is the process of seeking applicants for positions within an organization - on either a general basis or targeted to fill particular vacancies (Torrington, Hall, Taylor & Atkinson, 2014). Then, selection takes the next step, where the employer makes a choice between two or more interested applicants, who ideally match the vacancy with required educational qualification and experiences level. However, at the present time applicants similarly select their future employer by making decisions as to how much further they wish to pursue their original employment enquiry (Torrington, Hall, Taylor & Atkinson, 2014). Hence, selection is a negative process where there is trimming of the candidates and then selecting the most suitable person for the job. Selection is much more than just choosing the best candidate who has the relevant experience and skill to perform the job (Kapur, 2018).
Currently, I’m working for a leading finance company which is a subsidiary company of a leading banking institute of Sri Lanka which have 11 branches all over the island with more than 500 employees. Generally, the organization recruit about 10 people per month and for that Management is mainly focusing on new recruits’ educational qualifications and working experience they have. By following the recruitment and selection process we can identified suitable candidates for the job. First recruitment process will be done by the Immediate supervisor selection panel and the final selection process will be taken by the HR department Managerial panel.
This implies that the Managers should pay
close attention to prospective employee’s behavioral traits and their
compatibility with the selection process. Managers should not limit their attention
to potential employees’ technical skills and Management has to focus on to candidates’
cooperative skills and leadership qualities.

Hi Namal . The process of finding people an Organisation needs is Recruitment, set out in the form of role profiles and personal specifications, which may be costly.
ReplyDeleteSelection is a part of Recruitment process and selection is deciding which applicants should be appointed to jobs. Aim of Selection is to foresee whether the candidate will be able to carry out the job successfully (Armstrong & Taylor, 2014).
Hi Nilushi, Thank you for your valued opinion , When selection of the employees takes place, it is vital to ensure that they possess the desired qualifications, skills and abilities that are required to perform the job duties in a well-organized manner (Radhika, 2018).
DeleteHello Namal, As you have clearly stated, each employee's contribution is critical to the business's survival and growth. hence it is important that you hire the right person for the job. Recruitment and selection are essential components of an organization's overall human resource management and planning process (Compton, 2009) The right process reflects the company's professionalism and demonstrates the organization's maturity in attracting and hiring the right people.
ReplyDeleteHi Chamara, Really appreciate your opinion, There is no overstating the importance of selecting the right candidate for the job. A rushed hire could spell disaster to a company, leading to high staff turnover and missed opportunities (Mascarenhas, 2011)
DeleteHi Namal, Nicely structured post. In addition, Leech (2005) outlined the recruitment process, which begins with "determining if there is a position to be filled" and concludes with "managing the response."
ReplyDeleteHi Nuwan, Thank you for the appreciation, Recruitment is about hiring and choosing the right employees while choosing the right employees takes place (Walker, 2009). The success and growth of an organization depends on the candidates recruited by the management.
DeleteHi Namal,
ReplyDeleteI agree with above comments. The selection of right candidates for the right positions will help the organization to achieve its desired goals and objectives. When selection of the employees takes place, it is vital to ensure that they possess the desired qualifications, skills and abilities that are required to perform the job duties in a well-organized manner (Radhika, 2018).
Hi Hashini, Totally agree with you. Companies must be willing to invest time and money on a detailed and well organized hiring process in order to select the most suitable candidate (Kapur, 2018).
DeleteHi Namal, I agree with the contents of this post. I would like to add one more thing to it. The recruitment and selection process is one of the most important areas of an organization to achieve future growth and sustainability (Ahmad and Schroeder, 2002). A high effective process should need to be used to identify employees with high IQ levels and to identify suitable employees for the organization and to recruit them to the organization (Ugoani, 2020).
ReplyDeleteHi Dinith, Thank you for your valued comment. It is up to the company to decide on the method of recruitment based on factors such as recruitment policy, labor market, the nature and level of the job in order to hire the most suitable candidate (DeVaro, 2018).
DeleteHi Namal. As you've rightly stated, selection is absolutely much more than choosing the best candidate because the selection process entails a series of stages that must be followed in order to find the best candidate for the vacant position (Anwar & Abd Zebari, 2015). Following recruitment, this technique divides the competitors into two groups: those who will be provided work and those who will not (Anwar & Surarchith, 2015)
ReplyDeleteHi Namal , Agreed with you , Every corporation, start-up, and entrepreneurial firm has its own set of employment and recruitment policies and procedures.
ReplyDeleteEmployee recruitment and selection are typically handled by the Human Resources departments of large companies, enterprises, government agencies, and multilateral organizations (Armstrong and Taylor ,2014 ).
